Black Holes - Out of Context

описание

For the upcoming edition of Black Holes, five artists are invited to explore the context of exhibition space and the idea of work in progress. They are: Andrejs Lavrinovičs (LV) Saulė Noreikaitė (LT, NL) Katerina Sidorova (RU, NL) Debbie Young (UK, NL) and Amanda Ziemele (LV)

The opening is on April 3rd but the space is open to the public before and after that, from March 27th - April 14th, between 12:00 and 18:00

The exhibition aims to challenge two most common clichés in art theory – the work ‘dies’ when out of the studio because it stops changing and that whatever is brought into the gallery space becomes art. By opening the exhibition's space for visitors during the buildup, the public is invited to observe the works without the status of the finished art piece or the artist as a mysterious genius. Openness, eagerness for dialogue and constant change will dominate the space of the exhibition prior and after the opening.
We give you the stage, the place of constant transformation with no set truths and leave it to the ones involved to discover whether art works function the same in local or foreign cultural context, when is the work done, who influences the art creation process.

The exhibition is a collective effort of Totaldobre art centre in Riga and The Hague/Glasgow based artist initiative SID YOUNG.

Made possible with the kind support of STROOM, The Hague.
